Mélanie Masarin

Mélanie Masarin is the founder of Ghia and a creative force defined by instinctive clarity, thoughtful design, and a devotion to living with intention. She gravitates toward pieces that work as hard as she does—structured, versatile, and lived in—with denim that follows her across cities and time zones, shaped by movement, ritual, and the constancy of her uniform. Guided by her love of functional beauty, thoughtful architecture, and clothes that carry quiet confidence, she has become a distinct voice in modern lifestyle design, blending intentionality with elevated ease. Photographer Ruth Sorensen captured Mélanie at home in New York, seamlessly weaving her OSSOU jeans into her unfussy daily rhythm.

OSSOU: What makes a pair of jeans feel like yours?

Mélanie: When they truly fit. The right width, length, and a bit of stretch so they move with me.

OSSOU: Where have these jeans already been with you, and where are they going next?

Mélanie: Austin, L.A., and Paris (three times). Next up: Switzerland and the South of France for the holidays.

OSSOU: A film scene that captures your mood today.

Mélanie: Counting down to Dry January.

OSSOU: Morning ritual in 3 words.

Mélanie: A smile, a kiss, and a coffee.

OSSOU: What’s usually in your back pocket?

Mélanie: Nothing. Clean pocket girl. My things are scattered at the bottom of my bag always.

OSSOU: These jeans are your uniform for what kind of day?

Mélanie: A day when I’m working, running around, and still want to feel a little polished or might end up somewhere else after :) they're also very versatile so they travel with me a lot.

OSSOU: If these jeans could talk, what would they say about you?

Mélanie: That I walk really quickly and they wish I’d get outside the office more.

OSSOU: Structured or slouched?

Mélanie: Structured.

OSSOU: The best compliment you’ve ever received wearing denim.

Mélanie: My boyfriend just texted me "You’re so amazing and I feel lucky that you’re in my life" and I think it may be all I need ever. I'm wearing the jeans so it counts.

OSSOU: Which artist, architect, or designer always re-centers you?

Mélanie: There are so many but the first that comes to mind is Gae Aulenti.

OSSOU: The one piece you always pair with denim.

Mélanie: A chunky knit.

OSSOU: What makes this pair that pair?

Mélanie: They're on top of the pile or on the bedroom chair. They make my legs look longer than they are and never lose their shape.
